...I didn't have an iPad. Nor did I have a mobile phone.
Actually I didn't even know what the internet was until i was going into
high school. I had this thing called outside.
The internet is slowly becoming full of those "When i was your age" memes relating to how kids are spoiled with all their technological gadgets. But don't worry, this isn't a rant about how kids are spoiled these days with technology. I'm ranting about the people complaining.
I know I can't go a day without the internet. And as Bane would say, I merely adapted to the internet, but the newer generation is being raised in it, moulded by it, a lot of them don't know life without it until their connection dies, by then it's nothing to them but blinding! I'm pretty sure that if my generation, or previous generations had as much access to technology as kids do now, they'd be exactly like them. So are the kids really to blame? Let's face it, we're not going to get them to stop using it. We probably won't even be able to limit their access to a certain extent.

Yes,
I know technology seems expensive. But doesn't that kind of show that
we're becoming richer as a society that parents can afford to buy it for
their kids? Yes, kids seem dependent on the internet these days. But
let's not forget about the opportunity that they hold in their hands. I
mean, parents don't need to tell their kids that the Great Wall of China
was built to keep the rabbits out any more. They can
easily search it up and help with their kids' education. Within seconds
they can find the answer to any question they have. Within seconds! A lot of the times, it's from
the palm of their hands! And that, in my opinion, is absolutely astonishing. And the greatest part of it all, it's accessible by all
ages! This is some mind-blowing stuff! I mean look at your smartphone,
how does it not make you go "Oh my gosh, wow! This little piece of
electronic is freaking amazing!"? Anybody who has access to one can admire the brilliance of such technology.
And this doesn't mean that there is no downside of it. I understand there are greater and greater technological issues as we become more technologically advanced. But hey, there's a downside to everything. But let's not forget how many issues technology has solved either. Watch this video as an example. The smallest of technological revolutions has made life better for practically everyone who has access to it.

That
was just an example of a washing machine. Now think about the internet.
Isn't it a good thing that kids have access to the internet? They can
access the resources of the world. The internet has the potential to
revolutionise the education system and make education available to not
only kids, but everyone around the world, while making it affordable at
the same time! Not only that, the internet could achieve something never
even imagined before. Actually make education fun and enjoyable. Khan
academy is a perfect example.
Even then,
that's just a small part of what education via the internet has to
offer. Think about world trade. Think about the change in media. I could literally go on forever
about what the internet and technological advancement can offer. So
let's not forget about what we've achieved and stop blaming the kids for what they do on the internet and
instead, start finding a way to make their use productive.
